Accepting new students:
I teach beginning through early advanced students of all ages in Fort Collins. I travel to students' homes for lessons, and also teach at Boomer Music. Free introductory consultations and family discounts are offered, and I teach students from age 4 through age 74. In my lessons, I emphasize the importance of basic sight reading and ear training abilitites, as well as musicianship skills and expressive artistry. I bring students a wide variety of musical styles, and encourage them in developing their own musical interests, whether in classical, jazz or pop/rock. For most students I use the Faber Piano Adventures method books, but also assess the skills and needs of each individual student and customize when appropriate. If transfer students are using other books we will continue with those as long as they are working well. A variety of fun supplementary materials as well as piano games are also included. For more serious students, I work with the Royal Conservatory of Music materials and assessment program. All students are required to practice regularly, and parental support of this is essential. My training includes a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Biola University in California, as well as pedagogy training from the Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music. In addition to solo piano performance, I have performed with chamber ensembles, accompanied instrumental and vocal soloists, and sung professionally in choral groups. I also play keyboard with several Front Range contra dance bands.
